Animated Menus/Buttons without Flash

The Skinny

I have had this idea in my head for a while and have yet to see it implemented so I whipped up an example.

The primary focus is to provide the user with "animated" visual notifications on buttons without client side scripting or flash reducing loads and increasing market penetration without eliminating users who do not have or cannot for whatever reason use the flash player or have js enabled and it degrades very gracefully as no mission critical components will be compromised even if the user has prefs set to only play animated gifs once or not at all.

The method itself is basic standards. Utlize CSS to control your menu or nav and background images. The trick is on the :hover to use an animated gif to provide the desired effects. In theory this could be expanded to whole other levels of animated/visual notifications. This is nothing new other than I have never seen animated gifs utlized in this manner.

Do you really need to embed the text on the image?

You don't have to no. I just did it to save time as I whipped this up at work.
