Re: img + TIFF

First of all ... you need spaces between elements and attributes

HTML: Select all
<formid="form1"runat="server">
<imgsrc="a.tif"/>
Should be

HTML: Select all
<form id="form1" runat="server">
<img src="a.tif"/>
And secondly, it's best to use GIF, JPG or PNG formats for the web

Re: img + TIFF

A .tiff file is a larger file size versus jpeg, gif or png. .tiff's take longer to load or won't load at all on dial up.

Re: img + TIFF

Why not use JPEGs or GIFs?
JPEGs are average quality and okay load time
GIFs are below average quality and load instantaneously.

Re: img + TIFF

My company is using ~ 20,000 + Tiff files.

and I have explained them , that TIFF is not good to use.

so they asked me to prove it with ligal links.. so we could convert Tiff into JPEGs or GIFs.

Thank you

Re: img + TIFF

Do you have photoshop?
You could probably do a batch job which would convert them all.

Re: img + TIFF

I didn't think about converting yet..

First I need to prove that it is bad to use TIFF format.

Could you help me find a link that shows that:

- TIFF image format is not widely supported by web browsers
and
- that tiff's format would take longer to load or won't load at all on

I just need to prove it with ligal documents.

Thank you very much...

Re: img + TIFF

Here is an example that explains the difference between different image types and it says that .tiff images are quite large.

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tuto...utorial36.html

Imagine trying to download a 5Mb image through your web browser on a dial-up connection. It would take 12.5 minutes just to download the image. Do you think people are going to wait that long to download that image before they can see it?

I have never used them but would pngs not do thgw job as it uses lossless compression?

Re: img + TIFF

Just use JPG or PNG (and get pngCrush). GIF is pointless unless you want it to animate.

Basically: JPG for photos (great lossy compression) and PNG for high-quality graphics and alpha transparency (mind IE6!).

Re: img + TIFF

TIFF files are great for desktop publishing, not so great for internet use. Now if you use Quark Tiffs are the way to be.

GIFs are ok if you only need limited colours

Yes, but PNGs will do just as well.

Re: img + TIFF

I don't get what you mean there Mike.
GIFs are low quality and low file size whereas pngs are high quality and fairly high file size.

PNGs work much the same as GIFs if you reduce the palette. It's hardly fair to compare full-colour PNGs with 256-colour GIFs.

And for those of you who would like to use high-quality PNGs, but are put off by Photoshop's monstrously inefficient algorithms, try PNGcrush for (often substantial) lossless compression.

PNGs are great for everything except compressed photos, or other situations where you need lossy compression without sacrificing colours too much (that's what JPG is good at).

PNGs compared with GIFs

Re: img + TIFF

I might use that pngcrush app.
My header for my blog is rather large in file size.
