Portfolio???

Hi All,

Just a small post here, I have been going through the forum and all the links, etc, and I have noticed that alot of people are advertising their "Services" are ava, but most of the time the portfolio's of work have the same layout/details.

People I don't want to sound/come across horrible with these thread but please do something that has been seen before, using a layout style that other have got are not good if you want to compete against each other for providing a Web Service.

Re: Portfolio???

Do you have a portfolio? Most of the people who have that same layout and details etc are the ones with alot of clients.

Re: Portfolio???

I am currently working on my portfolio, once it is nearly done I shall be getting a domain and a hosting site but unlike many of the sites that people have on here my portfoli will be to show case my skills rather than to attract consumers!

Re: Portfolio???

What is the point in a portfolio looking totally different when compared to other peoples. A portfolio is designed so that a prospective client can quickly and easily look through past work which will perhaps show the kind of work you are capable of in the future. It is what lies within your portfolio that will draw the attention of people not some bizarre portfolio navigation concept. If someone has to work out how to use a navigation system then it has failed. You will often find that lots of people do a similar thing because that thing works.

Re: Portfolio???

Hey Pete,

That is a very good post and I fully understand what you are saying about if a portfolio layout works then use it. What I am saying though is that why do somethink that is already out there? Why not modify it so that it becomes your own design? As for the navigation system keep it the same as the other, simple at the top of the page.

Re: Portfolio???

"Padraig"

You might want to re-validate your portfolio contact page as in xhtml
is wrong
correct syntax and your portfolio is an example of what it was that I was saying about them being "very similar" is design.

Re: Portfolio???

That was the only section of my website that I did not write myself.

Also, is that a helpfup tip, or is another point you are trying to make because I didn't fully understand your post.

Also, you can lose " ". My name is Pádraig.

I'm sorry, but isn't part of the point of showcasing your skills in order to attract customers? I kind of think that's what most people are going for anyway

Re: Portfolio???

Errrrrmmmmm... now I know for a fact, no one has my portfolio because no one here likes flowers as much as I do!

But all the flower haters will be happy to know my site is being redesigned..
When it will be done is a good question!

Re: Portfolio???

My portfolio can be seen at the URL below, it will not be there for long, and the content of it is still under construction which is why it has been added to the web offically.

Re: Portfolio???

Eh .... I still don't understand what the problem is here?!

If you post your portfolio, it's to attract clients (ie: potential clients) ...

If ones portfolio has layouts that are similar, did you stop to think that maybe this person is starting out? Maybe they sell templates or something like that?!

Don't be too quick to judge someone when you don't know them. Remember ... just because the guys drives the taxi doesn't mean he's not smart

Re: Portfolio???

Hi All,

Well when I created my portfolio I structured the portfolio of work into categories. I used a simple paging system and master / details view. Not only did this improve the user experience but I also gained a lot form page count on google. I have worked with a lot of clients who dont understand web and IT so I recommend keeping not only your portfolio simple but also your whole website.
