<h2>Heading 2</h2> Put the above code into your page it will explain everything. Meta tags is what you mean, which robots (or spiders) use as it contains keywords, description and can include author information plus more.

You can also check out HTML 4.01 / XHTML 1.0 Reference which lists the tags and a definition for each of them
