Re: Please, help us to test new CSS Editor

I am particularly interested in this but it worries me downloading a piece of software in this way. How do I know it is genuine and that it does not contain a virus or a worm?

I am about to launch on a redesign of my web site which will involve having to chnage 3,281 pages. A number of web designers have said that I should create all my new pages using CSS, including the placement of all the design images.

I have never used CSS before and the thought of having to leap form nothing to being about as sophisticated as you can be is a bit worrying. I also think it will take too much time to master. Because of the time involved trying to learn a new skill I am thinking of only partially using CSS to control text attributes and do the rest with the aid of Library files in Dreamweaver.

If your product is genuine and it could handle the positioning of my design it would be very interesting to try it . . . as long as it is fairly user friendly.

This is the old page:

and this is the same page with a new look:

I am curious why, if this thread was genuine, that the originator has not responded to my post.

Doesn't everyone get an automatic email to tell someone when a reply to thread has been received?

Dear Hub, what answer would you like to hear?

what do you want me to say? would you trust me if i say this is not a worm?

I do not know. Honestly. If you never coded CSS and you do not want to download software and try it yourself....
I do not know...

Thanks for your response. Can you tell me what you are hoping to achive by providing free copies of the software. I know you want to test it but in what environment are you looking for it to be used and are you loking for experienced CSS people or someone like me that has not used CSS . . . yet!

I recently lost a £500 freelance job becasue I had no experience of CSS and it irritates me. So I will learn one way or another.

Having never used CCS and this is the design I wish to implement with it:

http://www.hub-uk.com/hub2/

would your software be suitable for me to test and try?

As far as having a worm or virus I could presumably run a test on the downloaded file before installing.

Has anyone else form the forum downloaded it? Which country are you based in?

Re: Please, help us to test new CSS Editor

This is a very interesting program. The interface was a little overwhelming at first because all of the possible features and split window pains were checked. I sat down and thought "omg this is really complex" but after I turned some of the pains off and fiddled with the program, it looked pretty nice.

The selected preview is a good feature but may not be needed if you already have a property info box that tells you which elements are supported in what browsers and versions...

Does the message panel have helps to fix unknown or incorrect CSS? I didn't see any. All it told me was which elements were wrong or unknown. A helper feature would be an improvement unless I missed it.

Don't take out the property inspector. It's very useful just as it is. I'd say it's a plus for us webmaster geeks who forget the snips of certain codes.

The property info box is very helpful! That's all that needs to be said about that.

The navigator I take it just lets you view your CSS in a tree-like structure? That's all? That's nice, but may not be necessary.

The whole program looks complete to me. I'd say you all packed as many options into it as you could without making it a huge giant of a program. Awesome job. It looks ridiculously jammed since all the windows pop up at once at the start, but that may be a good thing for people who don't want to go looking for all the options. Just turn about two thirds of the screens off, adjust some toolbars, and it's a go!

I take it this was not your first time doing pages using CSS.

How do you think someone who has never used CSS would copy with this?

I am looking to put this design together with CSS:

http://www.hub-uk.com/hub2/

Do you think this software would make it easier for me to do or do I need a full understanding of CSS? I have recently downloaded a trial version of Style Master. Have you seen Style Master or tried it. Doing the tutorial was fairly easy but after that you are really on your own.

Has anyone else used Style Master and got an opinion of it?

Re: Please, help us to test new CSS Editor

Yes I've been using CSS for a while. When I was learning it, I used Microsoft Frontpage's CSS insert tool then I moved on to using DreamWeaver. I really don't ever use CSS-only tools because I feel like they do to much work for me and I won't effectively remember the right codes I want to use. It's up to you.

You could certainly re-do that layout in CSS (you'd love it to). I downloaded and tried Style Master. As with other CSS editors, it appears to have useful tools but then alot of extra things you'd probebly hardly, if ever, use. It really tries to help you to much and you never learn how to hand-code CSS yourself. You don't have to have a full understanding of CSS to make the stylesheets, but it would really help later on. I'd say use it now if you like it and are familier with it, but when you get better as CSS, try hand-coding more of the elements yourself.

If you want to discuss CSS, we should probebly do it in PM since this is getting off-topic here.

I would use the property inspector to determing the list of available elements and selectors...
