css validating - color issue

Hi Peeps,

I`m trying to get a css doc. to validate. I get - warning: you have no color with your background-color. What does this mean? I can post the code if that`ll help...

Re: css validating - color issue

what you supposedly have: .xxx {background-color:;}
what you need: .xxx {background-color:#fff;}

^^ somewhere in your styles.

Re: css validating - color issue

Thats what I thought..... but without seeing the code.... it's hard to tell.

Also, validation sometimes fails with some color names.... ... she may have left the # symbol out.... or something else even.

If we see the code, then we'll know.

Re: css validating - color issue

if you have
.class {
colour: #abc; /* or #aabbcc */
}
You are also suposed to have a background colour (or vice versa) because the client could possibly change the value you haven't set. So if your font colour was say #000 and the client has a default background colour of black, none of your test will show up. causeing obvous problems, by includeing both you make it very unlikley this will happen. However there are times when it gives this error, even tho there is no way that situation could happen. And you can probaly ignore it, as warnings don't count as a failed validation

Re: css validating - color issue

Thanks herkalees and Phoenix,

I found it rather unclear as to whether the style sheet actually passed validation or not. I have used the xhtml validator, and there it was obvious- red = failed, green = passed. Plus the code for the icon was right there to paste in your code. Hmm. I`ll go investigate some more. Wouldn`t want to make a website that would make herkalees scream! Haha.

Re: css validating - color issue

Upon closer scrutiny of the validator results, I have come to the conclusion that it actually does validate (yeah!). So, sorry for the trouble. But thanks a lot for the explanation, Phoenix; I get it, and will ignore the warnings. (so there!)

Still think they could put the code for the validation icon there, like they do for xhtml...

Thanks again, guys!

Re: css validating - color issue

Ivyholly.... for future reference, please use this method:
your css/code here
....whenever posting code.... it's much tidier and saves people scrolling down for ages.

And... do I come across as an uptight-standards-accessability-give-no-leeway kind of guy?

Re: css validating - color issue

herkalees- I`m working on it- my newly updated site done in validated css and xhtml is becoming 'imminent'. (meaning all will be ready for uploading to the server in a few weeks). Won`t be anything fancy, but this is a big step for me. One does what one can...

Rob- oopsies. Will do. mistake.
