Problem with PNG transparency on JPEG background

Hey there guys.

I'm totally baffled as to why my png background cell (robbar4.png) won't show it's transparency against my web page's background image (backdrop.jpg)

Now it works if I don't use a web page background image, and just a colour and the only area that is transparent is in the bottom right of the cell where it curves.

I've messed around with the coding on the layout table cells so background colour is transparent and that doesn't solve it - i'm confused.

The png images i have in the left hand menu bar work perfectly fine, so why doesn't the png background cell against my web page background?!

If anyone can help i'd appreciate it a lot.

Oh dear ...

- tables - tables were meant for tabular data not to lay out your design. You should be using CSS instead
- font tags: deprecated, you should be using CSS instead
- non-semantic elements: the blockquote element is for quoting something ... not to use as a way to display a whole chunk of text

As for PNG support ... it doesn't work in IE6. You need to hack it to make is work. This method work very well - PNG in Windows IE: How To Use

As for "why" you shouldn't be using table, check out the link in my sig. It's also a sticky in some of the forums sections.

Thanks for the tip about using CSS. I'll really have to try and get to grips with it as am a beginner really.

But back to the PNG problem, I am using IE7 and it still shows up. Is it something to do with using tables as the problem still hasn't gone away

i've sorted it now, was an issue with my jpeg file. i'd placed an eroneous white square on it that shouldn't of been there. idiot
