Re: Importance of Validation

*Sannbe stands proudly next to Karinne as a hand coder using Dreamweaver. *

I started out with WYSIWYG in Dreamweaver. Moved to split screen and now use only the code view. Little lie there...I do check the design view to make sure it looks right. Just me not fully trusting my coding skills completely.

Re: Importance of Validation

Hey, I missed the whole conversation but I got the Dreamweaver handcoder bit....
Can I join the clan??? LOL

I agree with Karinne, Dreamweaver is the best coder around. And believe me, I tried so many different tools, simply because I was embarrassed to say I use Dreamweaver. People would automatically look at me as one of those wannabe-think-they-know-it-all type of idiots....

The best features are the very simple keyboard code navigation, regular expression find/replace per selected files/projects/selected text, file browser, auto-ftp uploading thingy, etc...

Re: Importance of Validation

I may be hand coding now but I still use dreamweaver. As I said earlier, I only us the WYSIWYG part as a security blanket.

You know, I really love the code snippets, they save me so much time now I can put stuff in there that I use all the time. The simple file manager so I don't need to keep a folder open with my site files and, if I want to change the site I am working on then it's so easy to open it up again.

I love the forms tool bar. I hate coding forms so anything that makes it quicker then it's all for the best. And of course the colour coded code colours

With Dreamweaver you have to learn how to use it, not let it use you. Like any program it has good and bad. Just use the good and ignore the bad.

Exactly. And the evil of Dreamweaver is its out of-the-box messy implementation of just about anything. Making it appealing to newbies, but scaring off experienced developers.

Steve Mellor:
I agree... As obvious as it seems, no other application has a file browser as good as Dreamweaver. I could not live without that file browser and Website profiles....

Re: Importance of Validation

Sorry Karinne, I just want to ask one question here, then you can close it!

Are there any FTP/Text-editor combinations for Windows other than DreamWeaver? I use skEdit (text editor) and Transmit (FTP) together. When I double-click a file I want to edit in Transmit, it automatically opens in skEdit. If I make a change and save it, it automatically uploads the new version to my server. Maybe that's why I don't see the appeal of DreamWeaver because a quick save and a refresh in my browser and I've got the updated version.

Re: Importance of Validation

hmmm, PsPad has an FTP editor built directly into the wonderful text editor. Not really sure wither it is that great, I never used the FTP part...lol

Re: Importance of Validation

Hm, okay. Transmit is nice because you can use any text editor you want and the saving feature works. BBEdit, skEdit, TextEdit, whatever you want or have.

Re: Importance of Validation

Ahhh, I see what you are saying now. I use SmartFTP!

When ever I am editing a file in PsPad and I click save, SmartFTP uploads it instantly to my server. Then I hit F5 in my other screen, and can see the updated version in about 1.5 seconds....lol

Re: Importance of Validation

I use PsPad to code most of my work. Sometimes if I just need to do a quick edit I use notepad.

Re: Importance of Validation

Ah, that clears it up. I would've found it surprising if Windows didn't have something like that. I'm trying to build my own little FTP app, but I'm way in over my head. Oh well, maybe I'll learn how to program computer apps some day :lighten:
