There are numerous ways to do this... You can use <div> tags to set up a layer and place a picture underneath text. This is a VERY hard way to do it without an editor and I dont suggest it. Another way is to make one big background. Then use it as a background image and write ocer it that way. The third way is to use CSS... Go to www.webmonkey.com and you should find something there that can help you out.

Yes. Kulegamr is right. You will need to use layers and layers are very complex without proper What you see is almost what you get editors.( like my fav. software dreamweaver )

However, do not hesitate to write words on pictures in fireworks itself! Writing words on pictures WILL NOT increase the file size in bitmap graphics and will increase only a little bit in vector graphics. You might/might not have heard these terms, but just keep in mind that instead of going to all the trouble of CSS/layers, just put the words on your pictures in fireworks itself!

Oh.. and kulegamr, CSS-P and Layers are the same. Layers are just DIV IDs. CSS-P is a broad term for DIV CLASSES and DIV IDS. ;-)

nahh... its not QUITE the same... You can use <DIV> tags without using CSS Positioning, but then you can also Use CSS-P which uses <DIV> tags... So yes, and no.

Well its not the same way... One way uses <DIV> tags and another way uses <DIV> tags but uses tables and preset alignments... Guess it IS the same thing, just 2 ways of doing it.. I used to hand code DIV tags before I learned the power of tables.

You could use tables, just put the cell background image as your image, then put text in the cell. Simple. No messy CSS.

hey everyone, thanks for all your suggestions. they are very helpful. Im thinking of loading my one design as my background image and then writing on top of that. Except i tried to use my new design i created using fireworks(not all that great yet),and i noticed netscape doesn't recognize .bmp. **** It looks even crappier than it did before in netscape. so much work to be done...

ditch the .bmp they tend to have huge file sizes and are not 'web friendly'.
Go fo a jpg, gif or png.
