why in almost all web pages selection of date is provided through drop down list instead of date picker?

Good Question!
For date-of-birth a drop-down list is better. A date picker has an advantage only if the date to be picked is no more than 2 months in advance. Another consideration is of course the use of javascript.

i think the code is smaller for a drop down list as it it doesnt normally involve a lot of css styling where as a date picker would?
