Re: Back links?

If they are real links, like so:
HTML: Select all
<a href="yoursite">Yoursite</a>
And they do not have rel="nofollow" in the tag, backlinks will be found eventually.
My site has tonnes of them, google analytics picks this up but google search engine only displays a few.

Re: Back links?

Okay, how long has the link been there?

Want to link me to one of the sites that has a link to your site?
I could tell you my opinions on link text (important for SEO).

Re: Back links?

Backlinks are incoming links to a website or web page. The number of backlinks is an indication of the popularity or importance of that website or page. In basic link terminology, a backlink is any link received by a web node (web page, directory, website, or top level domain) from another web node (Björneborn and Ingwersen, 2004). Backlinks are also known as incoming links, inbound links, inlinks, and inward links.

Re: Back links?

So if the links are posted on some of my sites, or on other sites, such as this, is that considered a back link?

Re: Back links?

Any link that links to your site from an external site is considered a backlink.

Re: Back links?

The easiest way to establish some backlinks is to submit your site to directories. You can also ask people you know, suppliers, clients, friends to add a link on their site.

Try to keep it confined to relevant sites though. I.e. web design directories are ideal for a web designer, but websites devoted to tapestry would be less valuable to you.

And avoid buying links, Google doesn't like them that much, because she thinks they are spam.

Not true, javascript and links with rel="nofollow" do not count.

Re: Back links?

Good point Alex, so a lot of blogs and forums will add the "no follow" tag to deter spam...
Some search engines don't recognise this, and still count them though.
