I have made a website for a friend (wulliestours dot co dot uk) and am having rela bother with the guestbook. It is constantly getting spam messages and I find myself hacing to log in and remove them every week.
The guestbook I am using is the one available free with the Heart Internet hosting package (by "Dagon Design"). They have the ussual option available of typing in a box the above randomly generated code to avoid spam. However, when I have tried using this security option in the past with the same guestbook, I was often finding that the randomly generated code wasn't even there in the box (just an empty box there) which means that guests are unable to leave comments. This is why I have rmoved this security measure. I hope this is all making sense! If so, could anyone suggest an alternative guestbook I could use for free on the site that would do the same job, without the spam (with a reliable randomly generated code to copy or something along these lines)? I have put this in the Beginners section as I was not sure where else would be right, and I would need an option that is do-able for someone with pretty basic knowledge. Many thanks in anticiapation of any help recieved. |

Re: A GuestBook without spam??
i've not really dealt much with catcha coding, but if you do a google search to start with then that would be a good start.
Other people here will then be anble to help you with the specifics of implementing it. On the other side of this, you should be raising this with your host. If it is part of the package you are paying for and it is not working, then they shoul fix it. Stew

I've heard that Open Book - http://openbook.sourceforge.net/ is pretty good.
