Unhappy godaddy Specific hosting and design

I just registered my domain and the godaddy support help stinks. I have no idea where to start and how to build my site.

Re: godaddy Specific hosting and design

Alex, I think he might have already bought the hosting as well from Godaddy (because of the title of this thread!).

From what I'm understanding, you've bought the whole works from Godaddy and want to use their tools to actually build your site. I must say I find the Godaddy site a bit confusing too! I haven't used their web building tools, but have used the hosting and domain registering. But really that is not the best way to build a site anyway, it's fine to host with them, but you should really build your site separately and then upload it there.

This probably isn't what you want to hear, but we're advocates of hand coding websites here, so would recommend that you learn (x)html and CSS and build your site that way, if you want to do that, then a good place to start is with the beginner resources on this site which can be found here for (x)html and here for CSS.

Obviously this will take a while, so if you need to do it more quickly, your next best option would be to purchase Dreamweaver and use the design (WYSIWYG) view to build it, and then you could gradually switch over to using the code view on there if you wanted to develop your hand coding skills. But unfortunately Dreamweaver isn't cheap.

Like I say, that's probably not the answer you wanted! Someone else may be able to answer more specifically about the Godaddy web building facilities if you still really want to do that.

Ummm she

The hosting and web builder come with godaddy. I was having so much trouble becasue of the way they set up my account

I have downloaded a template so I can get at least the site up and look good while I learn HTML and CCS. I want to learn cause if there is a problem I can fix it and not have to depend on help. Now I have to figure out how to set up the template

Re: godaddy Specific hosting and design

telivo was quite simple,
and they gave you an option to manage your own dns via their system.
problem was they didn't give you blank A records as an option :/

Re: godaddy Specific hosting and design

Really it is all of the above.

1. crappy customer service.
2. to many people not enough qualified staff
3. not user friendly
4 the set up just sucks.

Like they offer hosting or design with the domian but you can't use both. You either use their host and build your own or use thier cheezy web design stuff that looks horrilbe. If I were a buisness owner I would NEVER use thier web designer.

Re: godaddy Specific hosting and design

I have decided to go with their cheezy prefab web desing stuff because I think it is wasteful to have a non functioning domain. Once I learn html and css really well I will switch over and and just upload to the host.

I hate using that but I have no other alternative right now. My time is to devote to learning html and css is limited becasue I am a mother of 2 and can't really work on anything without being interrupted util they hit the sack, So it will probably be months before I even catch the basics. I also don't have sacks of money to dump into having a wedesigner do one for me in the mean while so I am stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Oh, sorry I called you a he before, I've only just got what you meant when you said "umm she", doh!

It sounds like that might be the best plan for you for now then, make the best that you can out of the quick cheezy stuff (sounds like the last meal I cooked!), and then take the time to learn hand coding properly and change it after that. I know what you mean about waiting till the kids are in bed, I have two also!

Stick around here whilst you're learning and ask about anything you need help understanding along the way

Re: godaddy Specific hosting and design

Hey mom of two... sounds like me a few years ago. Sneaking in some learning time between naps, school, etc.
Don't put too much pressure on yourself now. The time will come when you have more time to devote to it. And by using this program you will already have "some" understanding on how to proceed!

Good luck! Another mom of two teens!
