Last modified date

Hi!

For those of you who put the date that a site was last modified, do you always put it in by hand or is there an automated way to do so? Call me lazy if you wish, but that should be what technology is for, right? LOL

Re: Last modified date

There's definitely an automated way to do that, but unless you have a terms or conditions, privacy policy or some other legal document-ish type of thing, don't use it. The copyright date takes over that function to a point for normal sites.

Re: Last modified date

Ok, now I really feel like a beginner! I don't think I understand everything about what you just said. I wasn't really planning on using a last modified date, but I wanted to know out of curiosity. I see now that there is more to it than I thought... Could you please explain to me then in what context it should be used and when it shouldn't? I know that's kind of what you explained already, but I think I need a more "in-depth" explanation Thanks!

Re: Last modified date

Personally adding a "updated 5/2/07" is fine if you plan to update the site on a regular basis meaning weekly, and you have content that people will want to see only if it's new. If you do not plan to update more than once in awhile, I feel it's a turnoff. I hate to see sites that say "updated 4/4/06". I now know that the info is not current. So in that case it's best to leave that to the viewers imagination.

I do have two clients that want that. Both seem unnecessary to me. But that's their thing.

Re: Last modified date

Ok, that makes alot of sense So if I did have a site with content that was updated on a regular basis, what would be the easiest way to take care of that?

Re: Last modified date

with notepad (if you're mad enough to use that) F5 puts in date and time automatically (i.e. 11:42 03/05/2007)

Re: Last modified date

Thanks guys the article was very helpful. And no, I'm not mad enough to use Notepad :geek: but if Notepad can do it, then surely dreamweaver (in code view) can... I'll check that out. Thanks again!!
