Help with webpage please!
Hi, I'm in the middle of building my first proper website, having only built small ones before. However I have come unstuck with a part of it. I want to have pages which a user of my site can visit only once, and when they visit it they can print off the pdf which is on the page and then they are automatically redirected away from the page. Any ideas? Thanks alot, Simon

Re: Help with webpage please!
Hi, I guess that would be suitable, however the idea of the website is that people pay to for the document, which needs to be printed off to be useful, and so I obviously don't want people to be able to save the document so that they could print it a few times. Sorry this is awkward, if you can suggest a better method please say!

Re: Help with webpage please!
You can made pdf files with adobe that allow download only after typing in a password. There are also digital download sites that could help with this as well.

Re: Help with webpage please!
I don't think there's a way to get around the printing once thing. Even if you set permissions on it so they don't copy/paste the text, they can still download it.

Re: Help with webpage please!
So you don't think it would be possible to allow them to print only once? I guess even if you could they could still change the number of copies to a higher amount, but that's unavoidable. Would it be possible to redirect after they've finished printing?

Re: Help with webpage please!
I don't know, put they could always just run over to the copying machine and copy it, or scan it into their computer, or fax it to somebody else. It is impossible to limit how information is distributed in our day and age.

Re: Help with webpage please!
I don't think I get it. If they purchased the rights to something such as the pdf, then they are going to be able to reread over and over. Why would it matter if they made more than one copy?
Even ebooks you can print and reread, or save onto your hard drive and reread. It's like purchasing a book from a store.. you get to keep it and reread as often as you want. I know for a fact adobe doesn't have a redirect. Javascript to redirect after downloading is probably your best bet. |
