Hi - you have probably had this question before but i am having such a big problem in trying to get a website online, i need someone to put it in the simplest english sentence possible!!!
I have made a flash based website for a small music studio, put it into dreamweaver etc so it is a full site ready to be uploaded to the web. THing is, i am so confused about what it is that i need to 'buy' in order to get the site online!! I have only been trained in the visual side of design so when it comes to technical stuff i am just rubbish!!! So.... i have bought the .com domain name from 123-reg.com, what else do i need?? i thought it was just hosting but then i read somewhere that i need an FTP provider too...i thought that the whole FTP numbers that you have to put into dreamweaver came with the hosting package????? I give up!!! I need help!!! If anyone can spare a minute or two to tell me in the simplest way possible what i need to do i will be forever grateful!!! thanks, j xxx |

Re: What do i do next???!!!!
All you need to do is buy the hosting, you will then be given a username and password which will allow you to connect to your web server using Dreamweaver.
Good Luck! Post back if you need any help! |

Re: What do i do next???!!!!
j, do you have the username and password when you purchased your domain?
Go into dreamweaver and go to the top menu bar and click on site/new site/ click on advanced tab local info----->first line, name the site. Your business next line- local root folder- the folder where you saved all the files needed when you designed the site. remote info----> access- ftp ftp host: could be ftp.yourwebhost.com or it could be the actual www.yourdomain.com You'll get this in your paperwork or the help files of the webhost. host directory may be blank however it could be /(forward slash) or www/ again check the host help files or info. login= username password-just that.. click ok at the bottom of the screen. you should now have a connection to your webhost. You can upload all pages to the host and view! |
