Any help or guidence appreciated
Hi all
I have just got back into computers a few months ago because our local kiting spot needed a website, silly me volunteered. Anyway the first site Ive done is in tables ( i know its crap and all over the place) problem is my computer is only 8GB's and the screen is older than my mum & (800-600px) I didnt even know that that there were browsers other than IE & netscape. I have to update and write little news feeds quite a lot, so the other night I started mucking with layers, and from what ive read on the net its hard to center them, but I think ive almost done it. The only way I can see is by changing my screen res, but then its to small for me to see the print, so I just do this for checking it out. I want to keep the the amount of pages to a limit, so I was thinking about having little news feed links that would activate a hidden layer or some kind of pop up page that would just show the bare minimum (no banners, no side thingys etc) just the review, news or whatever & a close page at the bottom. I dont want to get into the graphical design side just yet, as I need to make sure that I can manage a simple site first. any hints tips to make this easier or better would be much appreciated. Thanks. Eddy test site: http://www.tiedtothewind.ttmar.co.uk/layer1.html Online site: http://www.tiedtothewind.com |

Re: Any help or guidence appreciated
Hi,
Just before I make my comment, I just want you to know I have very very limited web design knowledge The first thing I noticed is a few spelling errors on the words "beginner" and "coming". There is a few errors in the area that states "This site was created by true Amature who has No idea, so if you have any complaints please keep them to yourself, otherwise contact me Here " I would personally lose the capitals and make it look like this "This site was created by true amature who has no idea, so if you have any complaints please keep them to yourself, otherwise contact me here " It just looks rather wierd with the capitals. Also the text overlaps the area of the box this text is in. If you haven't been working on the other pages aswell please ignore this next comment. The constant change of colours and page designs doesn't sit to well on the eye, I would suggest trying to keep it to the same design all the way through the site, just so it look consistant all the way through. Good luck, Ross

Re: Any help or guidence appreciated
Sorry I should of pointed out that the page in question is just a test page. I dont think i'll use it. as it was my first attemt at layers and css. Though I will create something very similar. As for the spelling and the links to other pages they are just there to fill the spaces. I will use a spell check for the proper content. the bit at the bottom again just filling space
I want to know if using the scroller is a ok thing to do. Does the page align centre. Other than the design being very square, are there any real major things that ive done wrong. How do you get the rounded or feathered corners on borders. I should imagine that i will try to create the site about 3 more times so that i am a little more used to the ins & outs before I commit to the final design. Thanks again ed Last edited by tiedtothewind; Feb 7th, 2007 at 17:38. |
