So this is SEO huh?

Hey All

Thought I'd share with you some work an unnamed SEO company carried out on an old site of mine. First, a little background information...

This was one of my very first sites, quite a while back, so the coding was/is a little off and the SEO was not that great


Jump forward to last month, and the client drops me an email, asking a few questions about this company that emailed her regarding her site's search engine presence.


I replied with a standard 'beginners guide' to SEO, just a brief explanation of how things work, how to keep a budget in mind and so forth. But I also did say I'd be weary of this particular company (simply because SEO can be a risky game, the fact they'd approached her and that their site was, IMO, average).


Despite that, she goes ahead with this company and so I decide to check out what they've done.


And guess what? It took me a while to work out what they had done! Everything was the same. Except for one thing. A new index page with a keyword rich title, keyword rich <noframes> content and then an <iframe> that pulled in the site as it was before! You can see for yourself!


A little disclaimer: I don't know how much this work cost and I don't know if they've worked off-site too, so despite my shock of sheer atrocity, I will not jump the gun and scream down the phone at them ... yet.

What do you guys think?

(And yes, ok, so I should've said 'I'll do your SEO!' but I was pretty busy. Either way, there's my lesson learnt)

Whenever my clients ask about how to get better SEO (except in non-technical-speak) I tell them I've already optimized there site for SEO (which I do) and how they can also play a part. (Writing e-articles to include a link to there site, etc.) Way better than getting a 3rd party company, which (as you've learned) doesn't do much.

Do you think, if anything, I should give them a call a question their technique? I mean, I can't believe their tactics! This is truly some shocking work, and now they've smeared it all over my site

If you can find a number to call, sure, but I'm not even sure if there a legit corporation.

AFAIK, they're legit. They've got a website and I've spoken to them before and they *cough* sounded professional.

How long have they been optimizing this site, I understand that it takes some time. I have seen the html code they have used. They have tried to keep it very clean without using too many tables and things like that.

I feel their approach is not right and they will not be able to achieve much really, unless they try to optimize heavily off page like getting back links by writing quality articles and things like that.

OMG..... I cant believe they still do this!!!

Being involved just a tad with SEO, I've seen some pretty clue-less things and this used to happen a while ago but thought it was a long forgotten practice.... :O shocked.
