Position/ranking are the pretty much the same thing. It's not uncommon to have 2 words describe the same thing in the English language. But there's no right or wrong...

I personally only use ranking because IMHO it implies 'competition' and 'order' whereas position can be taken to be merely the 'visual location within a page'.
