Re: noloafing.co.uk

Sorry Simon, without being rude, I would say you should not be blogging about SEO at all with the pure state of your code and "randomly inserted metatags" and ninja'in content from other sites.

Infact Id class your website as hard to read the links down the righthand side are totally unreadable.

I cant f***in belive how you got the code so f**** up in wordpress it is so beyond me... It makes me question if you know what your doing at all...

Here is the top of my Wordpress Blog...

Code: Select all

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

What more can I say.... anyway the cleaner the code, the easyier it is to read, both to us, and the search engines!

And a link off of your page...

Not really.

Search engines don't care how "clean" your code is, as long as they can parse it for content and links.

Clean code is irrelevant except in so far as it affects your workflow, file sizes, or page rendering speed.

I'm not even going to remotely argue with this one, because its fact, clean code = higher ranking with Google atleast.

Ill do a quote from just one source... Because theres sooo so many that back me up.

Clean Code Matters

Quote:
What can we do to get more pages indexed? I've always suspected that streamlining HTML code is a good way to facilitate indexing. Reducing code bloat helps pages load faster and use less bandwidth. I asked if it would help to move JavaScript and CSS definitions to external files, and clean up tag soup. Dan's answer was refreshingly clear. "Those would be very good ideas," he said.
SEOs pay a lot of attention to issues like duplicate content, link building to increase PageRank, and link structure to move PageRank throughout the site. However, I haven't seen many SEO articles about the importance of proper Web development methodology. All too often when I look at a new site, I am appalled at the sloppy coding. The typical site could be streamlined significantly.
Yes, you should try to increase the PageRank of your pages, and you should design your link structure so that PageRank is distributed throughout your site in a way that makes sense. You should provide unique and valuable content. Those tactics will help your indexing, but you also need to pay attention to the dirty details of how your pages are put together. If everybody served clean code, Google would be able to index significantly more pages.
Why doesn't Google do more to educate webmasters about the efficient use of bandwidth and computing power? Perhaps it would look bad for Google to ask webmasters to recode their sites to make Google's job easier. Nonetheless, if Google can tell me how to get more of my pages into the index, I'm ready to listen and cooperate.
Clean HTML is good not just for getting indexed, but also because it means more people can read your site. The cleaner and more compatible your code, the wider a range of browsers it will work with, and this is especially important for users with screen readers and those using mobile devices such as cell phones.

It's not a fact, it's a superstition based on an ascetic philosophy of coding. Just because lots of idiots repeat something does not make it true.

After all, there are a lot more stupid people out there than smart people (although that may be because I consider < 120 IQ to be stupid).

Find me some evidence! Then you have an argument. Otherwise, your claim is a priori implausible, given what we know about Google's motivation (which is to rank the best content, not the best code).

"It's a well known fact that X" is bombast for "lots of people say that X, but I can't find any real evidence".

Most people are wrong about most things most of the time. That's epistemology 101. Epistemology 102 is: everyone is wrong about everything all of the time.

Anyway, there are only two conditions that are likely to result in a spidering failure:
  • The code is severely malformed, so that the spider cannot parse it.
  • The code is excessively large -- an absolutely huge file, so that the spider stops parsing it. All spiders will have a resource limit: a maximum amount of time they are prepared to spend indexing a file. You can expect this to be large, given the cheap cost of spidering and the huge resources of Google.

Re: noloafing.co.uk

100KB is about the top end file size per HTML, if you dont use CSS and have sloppy code, a site could easily hit that cap.

Now, I've emailed google to see if I can get a result out of this, I've also emailed Matt Cutts from Google, hopefully ill get a response from him too.

However clean code makes sense, it will atleast make parsing your sites quicker, and less chance of missing links.

Now that would be worth listening to.

Why less chance of missing links?

Spiders are programs. They are not human. They don't suffer from eye strain. They don't just "miss" a link as a human might. Within the resource limits set for parsing, they are infinitely patient and accurate.

And their HTML Errors.

Ok, so this might not be conclusive 'evidence', but they don't exactly do bad for ranking.

hee heee....that's not the way buddy leave it if you doesn't like..Still I want to add that the title seems little too big and this must be short down and I don't see any problem with the other meta tags. You can add little more keywords if you like..

Direct reply from google, so now, agree I AM RIGHT, you are WRONG, and SORRY!

Hello Adam,

Thank you for your email. I understand that you want to know whether
valid HTML and CSS help in better organic search and AdWords ad rankings.
Please note that clean HTML codes and CSS help improve rankings because
they make it easier for our crawlers to find information. Sites' positions
in our search results are determined based on a number of factors designed
to provide end-users with helpful, accurate search results. These factors
are explained in more detail at
http://www.google.com/technology/index.html.
If you want to read the rest of the email, i will post it up in the SEO area... But for now please, do not argue, unless you want to argue direct with google about their alg?

Thankyou please

Oh and Alexgeek, thanks mate, I was abit harsh, but sometimes its the only way of getting through, and although I have heavily slated him, I have done so, I assume in a manner to which he could hopefully learn more, as I do tend to back my arguements up pretty well

they are programmed by humans thus are not patient, there is such a thing as a "Time Out" you really think google has the resources to sit waiting about all day just for one site to be indexed?
