ALT & TITLE tags?

Hey All,

I am currently setting out to optimize my site, and I am using alt tags for image descriptions but these don't display within FF so I am using the alt tag and the title tag together will this affect my google rankings?

I mean by using both of then will I get done for spamming with double content?

Regards,

Wayne

Re: ALT & TITLE tags?

Alt should be used to specify alternative content. This should only display if the image is unavailable. Alt is how blind people know what an image is about.

Title may be used to add additional information, which browsers may render as a tooltip.

You should always specify alt. If the image is purely decorative, use alt="" (blank). You may also specify title. Title is optional; good link text usually makes title redundant.

Search engines will not penalise you for using these together; but don't use them for keyword stuffing -- that will likely carry a penalty.

Re: ALT & TITLE tags?

Also keep in mind that IE incorrectly displays the information in the alt attribute unfortunately. As stated, the alt attribute is required for images for accessibility. Don't try to "take advantage" of attributes / tags for SEO purposes, otherwise, search engines will probably disregard them as the meta tags

Re: ALT & TITLE tags?

Search engines already do regard alt as "the new meta keywords" (well, Google does). It's highly prone to keyword stuffing.
