Having the menu displayed at the end of the page

I have seen for the purposes of SEO, many sites have their menu's at the bottom of the page, then using CSS the display ity at the top of the page.

This way I presume the content gets read immediately by the search engines.

I am putting my site together now, is it worth considering doing this myself, will it really help me.

One navigation is enough. You only need the bottom nav if you are using images or javascript in the top navigation.

That's not what he means. He's talking about the order of source code: the navigation, although it appears to be at the top of the page, is below the content in the source code. It is repositioned with CSS.

Personally I don't think it's worthwhile, unless perhaps you have a very long list of navigation items.

Unless he's using a CMS with some sort of external menu-component. I used LxMenu in a Joomla!-site and put it above the content. But the menu makes a real big mess in your code, because it's all in dHTML, so Google would probably skip those pages..

I would think so. Jacob tells me to put the H1 as close to the <body>
Not sure about the links. You could have skip to content

As Mike said, i don't really think it is necessary unless your navigation is really big.

...and if your navigation is really big, should it really be placed at the top of your web page? Wouldn't it be better to keep the full navigation elsewhere, and provide a simplified version at the top?

It was just an example. Joomla is a CMS (www.joomla.org ). LxMenu is a menu-system for Joomla, which makes a lot of code, so it wasn't really an answer.. more an explaination..

Re: Having the menu displayed at the end of the page

I don't think it's really an issue - I'd be more concerned about making sure there's a "skip to content" link above the menu if it's at the top or a "skip to links" link if the menus below the content.
