Google loves blogs, but apart from providing more content, there isn;t anything else you can do. Most blog software now-a-days provides pretty good code which doesn't require much work SEO-wise. Also, I can't answer your question because I don't know what phrases you want to SEO for...

Well, Google'd "The net is dying" and you're in 3rd place. Give it a few weeks and you'll be top, no problem.

But I think you missed the concept of SEO. Ranking top for your site's name is (in most cases) not really an achievement. SEO, when it comes to blogs, often consists of optimizing each individual post for the phrase that best describes what the post is about, ie.: "what would someone interested in this post search for?"

Usually it's sufficient to use an accurate title, but the best thing you can do is submit your post to directories or submit a copy of your post to articles directories and get a free link.

I agree with spinal007.

If you want to SEO your site, you must first determine what your site is really about and determine the keywords and key phrases that best describe your site's contents. Then you select which of these keywords/phrases people would actually be searching for. Only then can you start thinking about SEO.

SEO is tedious one and you really need to work hard to earn link popularity. Know your target, and yes know your keywords specially when you're into blogs, article submission, etc... anchor text does a good job.

Then you're completely missing the point.
One of the aims of SEO is to help people interested in subjects related to your site to find it. If I want to know about the subject you mentioned, I'm not going to search for "the net is dying". That's ridiculous.

I might search for "google monopoly", and that's where SEO comes in. You have to create a page, or a group of pages on your website that will effectively and accurately match these search terms.

Optimizing for your website's name is not only extremely easy, but also a waste of time.

Spinal007 has hit the nail on the head - why would someone type "the net is dying" into Google when they are looking for something about monopolies and/or capitalism?

Does anyone notice a little bit of irony here? We're all talking about SEO for Google, and this blog is about people like Google having an unfair monopoly on the internet?
