Link Anchor Text Question

Someone recently wanted to do a link exchange.

They told me what they wanted in their anchor text and gave me a description of their site.

Instead of writing "Resume Service" in the anchor text (as they requested), I wrote "John Doe's Resume Writing Service". I did this because I already had a different link to another resume writing service.

John Doe wrote me back and told me that he wanted the anchor text changed to "Resume Writing Service."

My question-- Does it really matter that much? Why would "Resume Writing Service" be better than "John Doe's Resume Writing Service"?

Thanks.

- Tim

Re: Link Anchor Text Question

The anchor text for keyword position is main point, so using a keyword rich anchor text is only useful, any secondly "John Doe's" isnota keword and you are putting it on first, which is not fine in terms of SEO.

He maybe a well known person ... if so people maybe searching for his name in google. In that situation, it would be a good idea!

That makes sense.... It also makes me rethink the way I've designed links in the past.

THanks.

Re: Link Anchor Text Question

By placing name like "John Doe's Resume Writing Service" is to make the hyperlink for branding. And as "expertentity" said, its not a keyword "John Doe's". But if you like to get your website link should come up for searching "Resume Writing Service" instead of someone search by "John Doe's Resume Writing Service". Which term helps you to grow your business.

For branding its okay "John Doe's Resume Writing Service"

But you really looking to get business for resume writing service "Resume Writing Service"" is the best.

Regards,

Re: Link Anchor Text Question

IMO "Resume Writing Service" is most used keyword and is more popular then " John Doe's Resume Writing Service"
I do aggree with "Lchad" comment
if you are looking for Branding/Advertising then " John Doe's Resume Writing Service" would be better but not much for SEO.

He can play a trick use plane text as before anchor text as [ John Doe's ] and use "Resume Writing Service" in his anchor text which will help him for Branding and SEO.
