Question Web directory submission!

I've started to make SEO for our Web Design Company Cratima
and one of the problems I am confronting with is that there is
a fee difference between different web directories on the web.

I can submit our site to free web directories, reciprocal link directories,
and paid directories.

Now, my question is: is there really a difference between this submissions?
I mean, does Google index your site depending on the amount of money you pay a web directory site? Or do this paid web directories offer services that help Google index your site better?

Re: Web directory submission!

No to be honest in my opinon you should never or very rtarely pay to be listed in a directory - with the exception of Yahoo paid listings and other big name directories.

Recipricol links are also next to useless, I have read that Google is putting less and less weight on these because they have become a blatant attempt to trick the SE intyo thinking your more popular than you are.

A good link is one that has something to do with your company and website. google will assess the relevance of the link and it will be weighted like that. For example as a web deisng company you may be looking to get links at palces like Webforumz, IT Firms, article sites.

Article submission is a great way to generate linkbacks. If you have something interesting to say write it down and publish it on variuous article sites...and watch your site climb google!

Is it true that if a directory has a pr of 0 then google wont recognise it as a legit backlink and therefore will do nothing for your seo

Yes I believe a PR of 0 is useless to you. Also when someone places you on their site as a reciprical link, if the page they list you on has a PR of 0 that's useless. Their homepage may have a PR of 3 or more but the links page is usually less.

Re: Web directory submission!

According to me not all PR zero directories are useless, you know they may get better PR in future as they grow and work hard for getting it.
But be sure don't just submit to all low PR directories within a day it may be considered as spaming better try to submit your site daily at handful of directories.
On to the topic : ---- Paid Vs Free directory submission
It all depends on the directory itself, if the directory you submit is well reputed, well categories, updated very often is the good directory, even some of the paid directories are worst where as some free directories help you better for backlinking.
Directories with huge database and large number of categories are good if they Good PR then they are the better and if they passes their PR then they are the best

Re: Web directory submission!

Thanks guys.

I've already take the idea of paid directories out of my mind.

I never subscribe to web directories with PR=0, or Pr < than my
web site PR. Maybe I can get some linking to my web site from
those web directories too, but there are so many web directories on the web with PR more or equal to the PR of Cratima 's web site, that I don't bother.

Re: Web directory submission!

The thing is that I've heard that Google banns all the web sites that use paid directories

Re: Web directory submission!

I don't think Google bans all sites that use paid directories as some are (supposedly) very good. I think the problem you are referring to is with 'link farms' where you pay to be linked to thousands upon thousands of sites that have no relevance to your own.

Also, I wouldn't write-off linking to site with a page rank of 0 as long as the linked pages have relevant content to each other.
Of course this doesn't apply if the link exchange means your link is going to be on a link page with hundreds of other links - but - linking to relevant content SEEMS to be what Google likes.

Nobody but Google really knows for sure. If somebody does - can I borrow the book please.
