Red face A question by XcellenceIT: Does Yahoo! search engine matter any more?

XcellenceIT team has a question and I decided I should help them by posting the question. Here goes:
Everybody knows that Google is a leader in search engines. But Yahoo! search engine comes right behind him.
Besides my natural question: since all my acquaintances use Google, who are those using Yahoo! search engine after all? , I have another question:
Is it worth it putting efforts in improving for Yahoo! search engine? Google has Sitemaps, Yahoo! has Site Explorer, but is it worth the time to have your web site inserted in both?
OK, you have to make your web site as much W3C-friendly as you can. But Yahoo! search engine friendly?

Frankly, I don't think it's worth the time, but I'm looking for a second opinion.

Any feed-back on this will be greatly appreciated.

Well, it is good to have it in as many search engines as possible. Although it seems easier to get to the top of yahoo search engine than it does google because i was 3/4th in google and 1st in yahoo...

Yahoo! and Google are different. So it might be easier for one site to be #1 on either Yahoo! or Google. It depends.

My questions was: is it worth it.

Hmm, so you say it's worth it. Ok.

I use yahoo to search not google. So do millions of people. Unless you don't want those people to find your site then yes it is worth it.

Pete.

Yahoo! is strange. I got my website (padraigcurran.com) to number one, just by writing "Under Construction".

Yes, I think it would be worth putting the effort in to improve search results in Yahoo.

And you're searching with which keywords? Using "padraigcurran" as a keyword will of course always get you on top..

Yes, I used "padraig curran" to search, but on google, when I do that, I'm no where in sight!

Re: A question by XcellenceIT: Does Yahoo! search engine matter any more?

Looking at my webstats for June out of all the searches
91% came from google.
5% came from Yahoo,
3% came from MSN and
the rest were other..

One year ago it was like this:
Google 63%
MSN 16%
Yahoo 8%
Google images 6%
other 7%

So from my stats, Yahoo dropped 3% but they weren't a big player even a year ago.
