Post Google Aquires SEO Company

Resently I read an interesting article concerning Googles ownership of an SEO company. Here's a snippit and a link to the article that I'm sure most alert SEO's are well aware of.

Raising Flags Over Google's Newly Inherited SEO Firm

Google is treading in dangerous waters right now. The prolific company will inherit its own search engine optimization (SEO) company called Performics after purchasing the online advertising giant DoubleClick on April 13th (takeover due to complete at the end of the year) and so far there is no sure indication of the company's future.

I'd be very interested in seeing just what goolge decides to do with Performics once the purchase deal closes at the end of the year.

Although, it would appear in googles best interest to sell off Performics ASAP to avoid any conflict of interest or perhaps finding themselve facing the monopolies commission.

I am sure Google knows exactly what they are doing and how far they can push before it bites them. They are to smart to do something without knowing all the consequences....

A fare statement sannbe and I would agree the Google should know what they are doing and how far they can push before it bites them. Nontheless though, it will be interesting to see how this plays out come the end of the year.

I don't know, the smart thing to do would be to not even touch this and they obviously did so I think they already messed up.

This could do two things to Google...

1) they could put everyone out of business because everyone who used Google SEO would of course be top ranked on Google's search Engines.

2) Google's search engine would be destroyed, becuase no one would use it knowing that Google picks people based on who their customers are, and rankings would go to the highest bidder.

I think your refering to the seo company they aquired with doubleclick. I am sure they won't resist a good sniff about there before they close it or sell it on. I can't see google running an seo company in a million years.

Re: Google Aquires SEO Company

What's the worst that could happen. Say they face the monopolies commission, they'll just be asked to split the company up a bit. Even then it'll just be a "we're watching you" sort of thing.

No multi billion dollar company has anything to worry about, they're simply too powerful. And the more companies that Google aquires then the better it is for them, although there is a danger of them becoming a jack of all trades master of none but that won't happen in the near future, in my opinion.

Pete.

Re: Google Aquires SEO Company

Thanks pa007 I think the point to remember is not they bought an seo company. Google aquired an seo company as part of the doubleclick deal. They wanted to buy Doubleclick which I think was an astute purchase and in that purchase aquired an seo company that before closing or selling on I think they will do nothing more sinister than have a sniff about it.

Re: Google Aquires SEO Company

Its quite true that google is probably too big to be too scared of litigation much like microsoft a couple of years ago. Having said that the acquisition may just be for google to poke around and see whats the SEO practices are. The benefits to this type of research is great for building their main product.
