Help phpyellow
Hi guys I have recently been looking into designing a store locator and have read help from other users.
Now I think I have made a mistake I have purchased phpyellow script from www.phpyellow.com it is advertised for beginners as well as people who know what they are doing. I need to build my site around this script but I do not know how to do this. It says it expects my to have an empty mysql database on my webserver but I am working on my localhost with iis. I am worried now that i have wasted my money as I can't get my head round this. I use Macroimedia Studio 8 to design sites. I have never used dynamic development before but the script seems perfect as long as I can learn how to use it and customise it. Please anyhelp from anyone would be much appreciated. I am a noob but I have a reasonably good understanding of dreamweaver and fireworks. Cheers Martin |

Re: Help phpyellow
Well the first thing you are going to have to do by the sounds of it is download WAMP and run it to install Apache, MySQL and PHP on your local machine. That way you can set-up a MySQL database and run the php script.
Does the script or the site you got it from not come with any instructions/documentation? |

Re: Help phpyellow
hi mate cheers. Yes it does come with some documentation but I wasn't sure how to get started I have never used PHP or M<ysql. I will try WAMP and see if I can get going.

Re: Help phpyellow
yeah, thats exactly what I do.. I upload and test my scripts on a test site.. usually a subdomain off my main site does the job.
Its also always a good Idea also to have an exact duplicate of your site on a secure test subdomain somewhere so that you can test out any changes or additions before adding them to a live site I happen to have a good hosting with unlimited subdomains and mysql databases amongst other great features for a great price. I thought about using wamp but uploading and testing is much easier.. or its just that I have gotten used to doing it that way. The most important thing you can ever do either way is always ensure you have a fresh back up to fall back on should it all go pear shaped. Just a simple ; out of place has caused me no end of grief lol |
