A simple CMS to do what?
Knowing more about what you need the CMS for, the easier it would be to narrow down a certain CMS.

Check out Open Source CMS. This gives you the opportunity to test out the front and back end of a range of systems.

I've hardly used sNews, but from my brief experience it seemed extremely straightforward and easy to use.

I am going to have a look at snews.
I installed Joomla but it was a bit over the top for what I need.
