PayPal IPN integration

Does anyone know how to, or where I can find out how to use the PayPal IPN feature so I can automatically update my database?

I know it can be done, but I have no clue how. I think PayPal sends a token, that you have to send back as authorization. One your clear, your script can then update your database.

Anyone know how to implement this?
