PHP Advice Needed
Hi Guys,
I am in the process of learning PHP & MySQL. And have been using Larry Ullmans PHP & MySQL for Dynamic Websites 2nd Edition. This book is ok, but is based around PHP5 and MySQL 4.1 My managed server only has PHP 4.4.7 and MySQL 4.0.27 Does anybody know a really good book i can get that will give examples that i could actually use? E.g. Like a Content Management Site etc But also a book that includes creating the database side of things through PHPmyAdmin??? If i knew a good book that used an earlier version of PHP so that when i do the examples they dont constantly cock up then that would help me learn a lot faster. Any help, or any advice then that would be great. Or a place where i could get full tutorials of relevant stuff then that would be great. Cheers Danny |

Re: PHP Advice Needed
Pardon me if my response is a bit harsh
Why do you need books? I think the web is the most effective way to learn this kind of stuff. I tried learning from books but I spent time more with my PC rather than with my books, so the web is where I search for some knowledge these days...

Re: PHP Advice Needed
Hi
The reason i prefer learning from books is simple. The internet although an awesome resource and i do learn from the web too. I like to full working examples of stuff that i would actually use. Most tutorials that i seem to come across don't deliver a full tutorial from start of a project to the end. I my experience i learn more when i am working on full projects than when i do bitty tutorials. However if you have a good website that you know delivers better tutorials than the ones i find then please share your wisdom. Danny |

Re: PHP Advice Needed
Have you looked for PHP & MySQL for Dynamic Websites 1st Edition?
I learnt from that book a few years ago and it was great... I'm 99% sure it was PHP4. Have a look around... Don't take my word for it! You might be able to get one from Amazon second hand. |
