help with getting phplist set up

I uploaded the list directory.

I have a data base set up.

I configured the config.php file, to the best of my limited knowledge.

I tried to view URL/lists/admin but got error message 500.

I then edited .htaccess file deleting

php_flag magic_quotes_gpc on

and also tried

#php_flag magic_quotes_gpc

Still getting the error message.

Before you installed phplist, was PHP, Apache and MySQL correctly up and running? Can you still exec other PHP files?

I am not a web designer I am just trying to run my site myself, if you know what I mean.

I put setting up PHPlist on hold for a while, but am now trying to set it up again.

So I up loaded all the directories, configured config.php. I tried to view URL/lists/admin but still get error message 500 Internal Server error?
