PHP calender
I am installing a php calender on my site and need PHP safe mode switched off. my provider sys they will do it but under these conditions
a) you fully understand the risk(s) b) you only install the latest version of your script and you do research to ensure that there are no known exploits for your script c) You undertake to regularly check for updates to your software and install any security updates promptly. d) You accept that we reserve the right to remove safe_mode privileges at any time without warning if we deem it necessary to protect the security of the service. The software I have bought can not be refunded, I've checked. How do I find out if Comdev (http://www.comdevweb.com) are trust worthy enough to risk getting my safe mode removed. I am not worried about my site as it is only a test site but I need to think of the others on the server if someone gets in through my actions. Um yes have no idea what to do next everything is on hold including installation untill I'm happy then got to get provider to do their part. Hope I don't have a power cut!!! Any suggestions on this matter would be greatfuly received. |

Re: PHP calender
they sound like standard terms and conditions to me..... im assuming this test server is with a ree host?... and not a paid one?
Most paid hosts dont bother with such frippery... but the free ones have to remove as much liability of damages to themselves as possible. You need to understand that a 100% secure anything does not exist... everything is hackable.. given enough time, and skill from the attackers. So.... read forums concerning your own choice of scripts, and make yourself as happy as possible that no security holes exist.... other than that you cant do too much....a llthough i'll be suprised if the host doesnt utilise a layer of security of there own..... its difficult, and i cant recomend you to actually do anything in this case, as its a set of klegal terms and conditions you would be aggreeing to. just make sure you understand them fully, and have done everything in your power. sorry i cant be more help. |

Re: PHP calender
if your writing the script yourself....... then your in control of you own updates.
If your using a free script... or have bought one .... then you gonna have to check regularly for updates..... id suggest a postit note... or a reminder on your calander to remind you |

Re: PHP calender
Having a few issues with PHP safe mode, my provider is reluctant to deactivate but the software requires. I don't know if it's just to install or if it has to be off all the time.
It's an editable calender that uses MySQL database. My provider says that it's only poorly written scripts that require safe mode deactivates. Any suggestions? |

Re: PHP calender
seems quit simple to me...... either find a script that doesnt require safe mode turned off...... or.... check those guys out thoroughly to make sure your happy.
I cant give you nay other advice on this im sorry .... it is a legal issue, and im not willing to put myself in any kind of liable situation. Just make sure your happy before doing anything. Reading forum posts about your chosen code would be a good start. |

Re: PHP calender
If I can make a meta-suggestion: You might be better off with a paid host and free software. In fact, there must be some hosts that will actually provide you with free calendar software. Just Google and look for them.
Actually, speaking of Google, don't they have a free calendar? |
