my brain hurts - Matt's form mail

I had set this up a while back - I didn't think it was that hard even with my non-programer brain.

I put the formmail.cgi on my server, it's set to 775.

This is the user config in the pl:

@referers = ('shadowlakes.com','64.202.166.216');

@recipients = &fill_recipients('^karl\@shadowlakes\.com');

and my form page:
<form method=POST action="http://www.shadowlakes.com/cgi/formmail.cgi">
<INPUT TYPE="HIDDEN" NAME="recipient" VALUE="karl@shadowlakes.com">
<INPUT TYPE="HIDDEN" NAME="redirect" VALUE="http://www.shadowlakes.com/thankyou.htm">

When I test submit the form, I get this message:
Error: Bad/No RecipientThere was no recipient or an invalid recipient specified in the data sent to FormMail. Please make sure you have filled in the recipient form field with an e-mail address that has been configured in @recipients. More information on filling in recipient form fields and variables can be found in the README file.

I've read and re-read the readme file. What the heck am I missing here?
