Python directory not viewable by FTP

I've been trying to run Python from a command line, by FTP access. My web host has told me that:

Python 2.3.4 is installed on my webserver
The directory is /usr/bin/python
This directory is not viewable by FTP

Since getting help from them is like getting blood out of a stone, I'm going to ask here as well:

How can I run a python script if the python install is inaccessible by FTP? Can I use some other protocol?
