creating a scrolling bar

Hello,
I need some help with my website! iv read all the stuff already about this subject on this site but nothing is working. I am a total begginner so for those that are kind enough to reply if you could tell me as simply and in detail as possible, assuming I know nothing, that would be great!
I have a text box which is quite large and I would like to insert a scroll bar into this text box so that you can scroll down inside the text box rather then the whole page.
Any help would be great! thank you

Re: creating a scrolling bar

If you are using CSS then apply this you your text box

Code: Select all
overflow:scroll
and this will add a scrol bar to any text that overflows the text box

Re: creating a scrolling bar

im not using CSS but thanks for your reply.
As i dont know much about what i'm doing i'm not really using html - im using the design view more. but when i highlight the text this is what comes up in the html bit.
<div id="Layer1" style="position:absolute; width:817px; height:328px; z-index:42; left: 201px; top: 176px;">
<p align="left"><font color="#000000" size="5" face="Forte">What is PopTown?</font><font color="#000000" size="3"><br>
<font size="4" face="Times New Roman, Times, serif">PopTown provides Singing,
Dance and Performance tuition for all ages. We have several events such as
workshops, choirs, dance lessons and Summer Schools. PopTown staff are young,
fun and qualified and are all CRB checked. </font></font></p>
<p align="left"><font color="#000000" size="3"><font size="4" face="Times New Roman, Times, serif">A
PopTown workshop consists of 3 hours of professional tuition which will include
a singing lesson in which students will be taught a chart hit and coached
on the appropriate techniques needed. They will then spend the second hour
learning a dance routine. These will generally be simple routines to compliment
the vocals as learning to combine both singing and dancing will be challenging
and rewarding. The final aspect will involve combining these skills in a performance
workshop which we invite the parents to attend.</font></font></p>
<p align="left"><font color="#000000" size="3"><font size="4" face="Times New Roman, Times, serif"><br>

relaxed, friendly yet professional manner. </font></font></p>

<h1 align="center">&nbsp;</h1>
</div>

Thanks for your help

Re: creating a scrolling bar

Try replacing this part of your code.

HTML: Select all
 <div id="Layer1" style="position:absolute; width:817px; height:328px; z-index:42; left: 201px; top: 176px;">
With this

HTML: Select all
<div id="Layer1" style="position:absolute; overflow: auto; width: 500px; height: 300px; z-index:42; left: 201px; top: 176px;">
Adjust the width and height to your liking

Cheers

Re: creating a scrolling bar

Glad to help

Bear in mind the scrollbar will only appear when your text exceeds the height setting in the code I posted.
