[SOLVED] Can I catch up? 5 yrs out of WebDev...
Hi everyone - hoping you could offer a bit of guidance...
I developed a site about 5 yrs ago - pretty basic JavaScript nav menus and hard-coded product descriptions & images for a company. Since then I left and became a sys admin on something completely non-web related. The company asked me to come in and overhaul the site now as a consultant - I'm curious with the updates in standards and their desire to run a SQL db of the products on the web server... for someone who's been out of the game for 5 yrs, should I recommend they farm it out to another company or are things pretty similar? I'm trying to measure how much time it's going to take me to get up to speed for 1 project (approx 30 pages of strictly presentation content - no interactive shopping or e-commerce). Thanks for any guidance you can offer and have a safe and wonderful holiday season. -ab |

Wow, I can't even know which CSS file is for which ASP page that I have created in 1 month ago
You might totally lost and out of the track! Unless you have all the code commented nicely

Re: Can I catch up? 5 yrs out of WebDev...
I would say it all depends on how quickly you can pick things up? An d how much you actually want to do the work, if you are unmotivated from the beginning then there is little hope of completing the project.
Web Development and design standards have moved forward in the last five years, So you will need to learn a few more things, but I wouldn't say it was insurmountable. The web itself is probably the best resource for learning, and you can always learn as you go along. I would start by reading the stickies in the beginners forum and then see how you feel about doing the project. And don’t forget, we are here to help you along the way.
