New blogger, need help with altering template etc.
Hi guys, very new to this whole thing so please be gentle with me!
I run the site nokiageek.com. I've recently moved from a blogger.com to a wordpress blog that I have hosted. I've found a nice, simple template that I like apart from at the top it has 3 links, Frontpage (I'm OK with that), Archive (which doesn't work, and thinking about it I need some help with that too!!) and About. What I'd like to do is change About to Forum as I've created one. is this possible, if so how? And while I'm here, if someone could tell me how to create and sort out the archive page, that'd be lovely too! Matt |

Re: New blogger, need help with altering template etc.
You will have to find where the navigation is! Do you use DreamWeaver by an chance?
I know a very easy way to find the navigation file and change it.

It's quite hard to help you, as we don't know where the file will be for the navigation.
I'd have to read your entire sites code (which I cannot do from the web).

I notice you are using Criss Pearson's Cutline template.
Good choice for simplicity and customisation options.. He has plenty of help on his site and has recently added a new support forum. Probably best to ask him direct - http://cutline.tubetorial.com/forums/ |

Re: New blogger, need help with altering template etc.
here's the link to the theme I'm using http://themes.wordpress.net/columns/...lumn-split-11/
I've asked on the forum, but there's a rather stroppy chap whos asking people not to ask how to do these kind of things and just learn for themselves. I've been trying that today, but I have no idea where to start or what to do! |

Re: New blogger, need help with altering template etc.
Righty Ho.
Before we start back up you header.php file from the cutline template and make sure you only change the exact code as shown below. After backing up open header.php in whatever text editor you are using. Then find this code (about lines 34 - 37)
Delete it and replace with this code -
Now in the above code you need to change the text URLTOYOURFORUM with the full address to your forum and you need to change URLTOYOURARCHIVE with the full url to your archive. This is a fairly crude way of doing as your hard coding the url's but it works and is completely valid. I'll sort out the proper code when I have time but I cant say when this might be. The above solution should be fine for the purpose in hand though. If you need any more help then PM me and we can hook up on msn or something and ill talk you through it. Good luck. |
