uploading help - please
I want to upload some test pages to my host. In the remote browser, I have a folder named home, and a sub folder with my user name. When I connect, I see more sub folders under my user name folder.
Where do I drag my files to? Also; will I see my index file after they are uploaded and I put my domain in the address bar? Thanks |

Re: uploading help - please
Yes once you put your index page on the remote server you should see it. I have had instances where I have had to delete the placeholder index page.
Where you upload varies. It's hard to say without seeing the names of the folder. Did you see a help file online for your host? Or did they send you a welcome letter? The most obivous places are in the root folder. Just below the folder titled home(same level) Another possibility is a /www folder Test it out... drag and drop it into an area and then check your domain online. If you see your homepage you know you have it in the correct location. |

Re: uploading help - please
Thanks for the reply;
I am using SmartFTP, the instructions given by my host are for other programs that are not free. My home folder is parent to a folder with my user name: it contains files from the host. I have tried to upload to the home folder, but the files won't transfer. I do show a connection and the connection window will say transfer complete, but the files do not upload. I am stumpped! |

Re: uploading help - please
Well, I did get my test files uploaded, but when I go to my site, I get sent to a search page?
This is getting on my nerves! |

Hi
Is there anyway you could show us the directory structure as seen when you view on your ftp. |

Re: uploading help - please
are you going to the exact link or just the domain name:
e.g. domain.com instead of domain.com/index.html some hosting companies require you to set up your own home page

Re: uploading help - please
In the directions for the ftp programs that are not free, they still must show you what the destination folder/area is for your files in the remote ....

Re: uploading help - please
I wound up using WS_FTP to upload the files. I also tried to forward mail from my host email account, to the roadrunner account I now use, using my rr account to send it, it didn't work either.
I left a message with the host help desk last night: read their reply this morning and they say the problem is on their end. Still no page loading. I'll try a little later. Thanks for your replies! |
