table less design ?'s

Hi all - I've been doing front end layout for about 12 years. So, table hacks are second nature for me.

To keep up with all the 'youngsters' out there, I'm trying to learn more about css tableless designs. In all my reading, it seems like even current css still requires a bunch of 'hacks'

It also seems there is quite a bit of work, and hacks, involved for a very simple site - for instance, the standard 3 column, header and footer page.

Most of the examples I've seen deal with pretty simple layouts and minimal graphics. I wonder if someone would take a look at this layout and give advice/thoughts on doings this tableless.

This wasn't that difficult to do with tables - I just wonder if it can be done in css without extensive hacks.

This is the site link (currently under dev): http://www.estrellaeyecare.com/

Re: table less design ?'s

Piece 'o cake

Seriously ... at first you think there's a lot of hacks involved but there aren't that many really. It's mostly the fact that we have grown accustomed to using them And there are a lot of CSS properties out there that aren't supported that would make our life a lot easier in some instances but again ... we've learned to work around them.

Your design is a simple 2 column layout.

Have a look at this thread - Resources for learning how to use CSS for layout

Mostly the "How" section, there's some great example in there.

Are you kidding??? That is a dream site for your first css/html creation! Woohoo...

Thank you for calling me young! And since I just learned it all in the last 7-8 months, things don't seem like hacks to me since that's how I learned it.
Newer browsers are better than the older ones obviously. I was also a table designer... so if these folks can teach me, they can certainly teach you!
