Search Engines
I am trying to create a search engine and I'm not sure how to go about doing so I am creating a website for house plans to be sold online and I want to be able to have it where people can search by how many rooms and square feet and things like that if anyone can help me I would really apreciate it - Patrick

I think the first question you might be asked is what is your skill set as far as web development is concerned. Are you familiar with any Server Side Languages, and what type of database do you plan on using?

ok I'm using Dreamweaver I don't know what server side I'm using and what is a database lmao Does that sum up where I'm at? lol

Oh boy! This would be my first suggestion. Look into a web developer to do this for you. If you wish to do it yourself, there's good news and bad news.
Good News: It can be done Bad News: You have your work cut out for you You will need a server side language and database to achieve what you are shooting for. Which language/database combination you use is up to you. I would suggest PHP/MySQL, IMO that's the easiest. You may be able to find applications online for download that would get you what you need. But, you need some knowledge of server side programming and databases to install them. Tutorial PHP MySQL Above you'll find a tutorial for installing what you'll need and some simple scripts to get you started. And a link to PHP and MySQL. Here's my disclaimer. There may be other ways to create your site search, but I'm not aware of them. If you get stuck, c'mon back and we'll help ya. Good Luck, Scott |
