Help getting 1st website on line!!!

Hello

firstly im really sorry, this is going to be such a silly question, and im sure you will all laugh!!

Im having my FIRST ever go at putting a website online using dreamweaver!

Ive followed all the tutorials and i THINK it should now be online and running, but its still just showing the UK2 page.... does it take a while before it will become active?? or have i done some thing rong?

If any one can walk me through this, i would be REALLY REALLY greatful!!

Re: Help getting 1st website on line!!!

It normally takes a couple of days before the webpage propagates through webservers and you/others can see it by typing www.whatever.com.

Normally the host should provide a way to view it via some kind of control panel. If it still doesn't appear to be online after a week or so, then you should start looking for a problem.

Re: Help getting 1st website on line!!!

You may need to refresh your browser to see the change. F5 key on keyboard. (sometimes control+f5)

Did you save the page as index.html or index.htm?

Did you create a site and put in the ftp information?

Once you have done that, you can up arrow (upload) the page.
It will override the current place holder page.

Check in your remote folder in dreamweaver to make sure it is in there. It needs to go into the same directory folder as the place holder page.

Re: Help getting 1st website on line!!!

You need to setup a domain try

www.supanet.com

Then you will have to download FTP try cute.

their will tell you the ftp domain name. When I say their I mean supanet.com.

If your website is call.

www.hello.com
The ftp domain will be called ftp.hello.com
and the user name will be call hello@hello.com
The password that you use will be the same as supanet.com

It sound very hard but it is very easy.

Re: Help getting 1st website on line!!!

well if you are seeing index-html that is your problem. It should be index.html
And you can only have one up in the remote folder/server. Delete all the ones that you do not need only leaving yours.

Re: Help getting 1st website on line!!!

Well done.

for upload your site.

Now remember that every time you setup a folder on your server, you will have to set-up a index.html page.

eg
shoping/index.html

remember to put you images in a image folder
so your jpegs will it in the image folder
You can locate your file froms there.

Re: Help getting 1st website on line!!!

your site works for me!

you now need to learn css and get some borders and formatting, and you've got a website.

Sometimes it's easier to get some free css template (Google for that). Thats how I started!
