Need Advise regarding job in web design / development / coordinator job
Hi,
I am not new to web design. I have created few websites and familiar with most of the web tools. But I do not have a formal certification to apply for any web related job although I have a degree in computer science. I don't think the certificates from the local colleges have any strong value. I would like to know if there are any other certificates which can increase my chances of getting a job as web developer. Thank you KR |

Kala,
One simple question...Do you have a portfolio of your work? Degrees and Certifications are fine, but employers want to see the work you have done...especially, if you are applying to be a designer.

Yes. Not a lot. I have done these websites for our community and not for any company as such. Hence I am bit hesitant to put that in my portfolio.

Don't be shy about that. They will just want to see your work, whether it was for free or paid, non profit, for profit, business, informational or personal. Clients just want to see what you do.

Re: Need Advise regarding job in web design / development / coordinator job
Businesses and Clients don't necessarily want to see your degree or certification, they want to see your portfolio of work. Not just a portfolio, but better a portfolio of work that showcases your skill and abilities and shows an organization what you are capable of bringing to their company!
They don't want to see what..."You have done". So show your demo reel to the organization, but don’t show it as: “This is what I have done.” Show it as: This is just a taste, an IDEA of what I can bring to your organization – the opportunities are endless. I just got done reading Webforumz own Multimedia Specialist, Scott Gaspar's article on "Landing the Dream Job after College!" You should go and check it out. The article is located here.
