Needing Some Help

Hello,

I am new to this site and new to web design. I am not sure if this is the best place for this question, but wasn't sure where to put it. I am helping a friend build a website and it is centered around a cause he is passionate about. He would like me to create a page where people can join his cause. My question is, I am trying to figure out how to build a page where people can join.

He would like to have it so people can click on a link that says "Join the March" and that will take them to a page with details about the cause and a place for them to sign there name and put a comment. Once they submit this it will be placed on a page for all to see who and how many have joined. He is trying to get a large group of people to join him. This would be a cross between a guest book page and a petition page, but neither of them quite fit the idea of what we are after here. If anybody has any ideas of how I can do this and what I need to do, I would greatly appreciate the help.

Here is an example site that I found that kind of displays what we are trying to accomplish: http://www.stopglobalwarming.org/default.asp. This has nothing to do with what we are after, but it will give you the idea of the sign-in and keeping track of numbers of signees and who they are.

Your suggestions, thoughts, and ideas would be greatly appreciated. I am new at all this so any tutorials would be great too. Thanks in advance for your help.

Your best bet is to do this using PHP and mySQL. It sounds like it's going to be a custom programming job. If you're completely green, I suggest you put together a comprehensive list of everything you want it to do and submit it to a freelance website. I would imagine something that that would cost between 50 and 100 dollars to make.

I would say the easiest way to do this would be to just install a free guestbook. Then just customize it...and you are done!!
