No, mysql is on your host so you don't need it at all on your computer. You just need to go to the address of phpmyadmin (there should be a link in cpanel).

You probably don't want to touch the privledges table or the configuration database at all. Phpmyadmin is very easy to learn and you can get tonnes of help if you're stuck.

cpanel is a hosting control panel -- your host mustn't use this then

The one with 17 tables? Leave that as is.. The one in your name is the one you want to play with.

phpmyadmin is much easier if you have a basic grasp of mysql first...

Here's a tutorial

http://www.help.thinkhost.com/web-de...ses/phpmyadmin

here is a tutorial of the mysql basics if you don't know them already

http://inpics.net/mysqlbasics.html

Cheers,

Re: do I need mysql set up on my computer?

I found a very short tutorial on setting up a basic table that's it though. The link bellow had an error message?

http://www.thinkhost.com/services/kb...tutorial.shtml

I have an address book that I want to add to the data base, it currently sits in Outlook Ex and I have a copy of it in M Excel. The contacts are set in groups of folders example:

Parents
Members
Mailing list
government organisations

I want to add these contacts to phpadmin as groups. Can I get help or should I just try and import?

Thanks
