internet directory

Hi everyone,

I am setting up a web site for business reasons , I have been contacted by www.businessinternetdirectory.com and for a priority listing which will cost 149 + vat they put me above all the free listings. Question, has/is anybody used this service, can anybody find out if this is not a scam ?, please advise.

My personal rule of thumb is that I don't pay for anything relating to SEO, links, directories, search engine submissions ... You can get a good rank in Search engines without paying money.

Once you get a domain name and especially once you get picked up by search engines, you get all kinds of lovely offers.
I delete them all and I tell all my clients to do the same.

I strongly agree with Linda and Karinne.

This is "money for old rope". Most directory listings are worthless, but some -- the human-edited ones, with quality restrictions -- are gold dust. You can't buy your way into them.

If you write good enough content to get into dmoz , then you really will get more traffic (Google is heavily influenced by dmoz listings, apparently). But the only way into dmoz is to create really useful content on some subject, and submit it.

Make that 4. You should not have to pay for this. Beside belonging to webforumz means you can get some great help without spending a dime. Good job asking before leaping. Remember, we all help each other here. Besides, you can take your saved money and by us all tea and biscuits....

What will a priority listing give you, when they promise the same to countless others? How many times have you heard, 'We'll get you in the top ten rankings'? How do they get 1000 sites into the top ten?

Yup. Save your money. There is more than one way to skin a cat.

I thank you all for input, and I am glad i did ask, right everyone around my house for tea , cant afford trip to america sorry. think site will be ready by this time next week, so seo questions will appear then when I know more about what he has done ans has not done.

I agree with all of the above! I maintain top ranking for my website paid for with just a little sweat equity. Save your money, optimize your coding and reciprocal links, the placement will come. You can also do Google Adwords for a little as $5 month (I do-- worth it).

Paying for directories is very much dependent on your budget, some directories are worth the money like the yahoo diretory which will give you a good link from an obvious high standing website.

However you should really try to submit more to free directories if you are on a lower budget, also use as many SEO techniques as possible.
