Too many ads - a negative?

Hello all,

Not sure if this is operate here so sorry mods!

This is my site: http://www.shadystudent.co.uk

I am tempted to add more ads to our site (8 of us!!!), but is too many ads really a bad thing since they generate a load of money!!! Do you think ads is appropriate for the site above? Our audience is students.

There are more ads on other pages.

I don't think so. I mean if a website has too many ads and it comes of confusing like is this a link on this site or an ad. People will just leave, you might end up losing business.

I agree lots of ads are a turnoff. It would be like tuning into your favorite television show and having 15 minutes of show and 15 minutes of commercials. Who would tune in again? Not me. I'd say use common sense.

Use common sense but also...ask your users... You may be surprised.

ads produce pop-ups, pop-ups equal no good, big turn off.Even 1 pop up is bad, if you want to advertise make and affiliate section on your website, that would be the best if your looking to make money

Thats a good idea and that what i did!

I ask this question because there is a sort of trade-off between the number of ads you have on your site, the amount of revenue you can make (assuming the more ads the more money - not necessarily true) and how annoyed users will get with the ads!

Its just hard to get the balance right!

Re: Too many ads - a negative?

Ads are annoying. How ever if you can get ads specific to your demographic that are sleek and savvy (not "have you mortgaged your home lately?") then the user will feel like its not that big of a trade off to have good looking ads on a site.

If the ads are unobtrusive, then kudos. I like dealing with scanscout personally, but i deal with mid-roll ads.

No pop ups. They spawn from satan himself!
