legality with embedding fonts

legality with embedding fonts
Hi, I am new to this forum. I wonder if someone could help let me know the legal constraints of technology regarding embedding fonts (I have been warned and warned and warned not to and I have heeded this warning but still need to understand some issues). If a font family is purchased, obviously there are licensing requirements, but is there any 'standard' information of what a web design company can legally do (regarding the use of the fonts with a/many clients?
I hope this is not too confusing and I appreciate any feedback how ever small.
