help w/ contract for project

Hi, I recently got my first paying project and was wondering if there's some template for webdesign contract or what should go into a standard design agreement?

I feel that it's easy for the other party run away with the design and not pay...especially if he is paying by check which takes a week or so to clear.

I appreciate any suggestions as to what terms I need to put into my contract or how to avoid getting shortchanged.

Hi Newdesgner,

This might be a good contract for freelancing - Consultant Terms and Conditions.

Alternatively you could use Web Design Contract Agreement; which is likely to protect your design in terms of intellectual property - it gives you two options (depending on what you're charging your client for) - It either gives all ownership of copyright etc to the client, based on them paying a higher fee; or leaves the copyright with you and the client has a licence to use the design in their business.
