Multi-Quote in Javascript/html help

Hi, im trying to add a multiple quote feature on a phpbb2 forum, just a basic one to be able to quote more than one post, i would like to add this using only template files, so it would be in a topic so to do that i would need to edit "viewtopic_body.tpl"

there are 2 different simple ways of multiple quoting

1 way:
on each post there will be checkboxes, and you check the posts you want to quote then at the bottom a button called "Quote selected" and it will quote the posts you selected from the checkboxes in to the quick reply box, surrounding the post in quote tags..

second way:

You just highlight any text on the page and click on "quote selected" and it adds it to the quick reply box.

i think the second one would be easier, could anyone tell me how i can do this, or what script i need, or if anyone could point me to a javascript that does this, please help me
